Nostalgia
Adios to 2011
When I look back on 2011, I’m not sure there’s a whole lot that will particularly stand out about it. While we did some fun travel, we didn’t leave the country. I will, of course, remember the trip that felt like I left this planet for a short time – my rafting trip down the … Continue reading
Being Thankful
I was just fining myself getting into a Sunday afternoon “weekend’s almost over and little things are annoying me” funk, when I realized how absolutely great it is that every single one of my problems is a first world problem. And really really minor first world problems at that.
Nostalgia Ain’t What it Used to Be
Several things have conspired lately to have me thinking a lot about the past, to childhood and my early adulthood. The first is the creation of a couple of Facebook Groups – one for folks who worked with me at University Transit Service (UTS) at U.Va., and one called “You know you grew up in … Continue reading
Gratitude
Yesterday at SkyDance, I met a gentleman named Ben. He saw me walking by and commented on the Leap for Lupus t-shirt that I was wearing. I explained that it was a skydiving event/fundraiser to raise money for lupus research. He mentioned that he had ALS and that last year he’d known some folks doing … Continue reading
Still Crazy After All These Years
Sean and I went to see Paul Simon at the beautifully-restored Fox Theater in downtown Oakland. So nice to have a really phenomenal theater that attracts great acts right here in Oakland. Sure, the City gets lots of great shows, but sometimes it’s nice not to have to cross the Bay.
A MacArthur Genius Who Can’t Spell

That’s the … Continue reading
Focusing on the good stuff
We went up to SkyDance yesterday for Safety Day and with the hope of jumping (the forecast was iffy but turned out to be totally wrong as it was a gorgeous day). I also say hoped in my case because I was waffling between ambivalent and apathetic about getting into the air, and I’ve always … Continue reading
I Can Relate
I didn’t wake up this morning thinking “I’m going to blog all about the dark days of being fat and food addicted” but here I am writing post #2. This morning’s was inspired by The Economist, this evening’s by a memoir that was in the pile of books on hold I picked up at the … Continue reading
Traveling While Fat
I blame The Economist for this long, rambly post. I sat there this morning reading its wonderful coverage of the entire world (not just the parts of the world that the Americans think are important and then only with the American-centric view). Annnnnnyway… I started thinking how long it’s been since I’ve been to Europe … Continue reading
The Last Decade
Yeah, yeah, I know everyone else is doing it, but I’m home, sick, and bored on New Year’s Day and it’s a new decade, so let’s look back at the last.
