Beyond Belize

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

The rest of the trip was relatively uneventful - I did wind up getting three more jumps in on Sunday, culminating in a sunset load that turned out (with clouds and wind rolling in on Monday) to be the last load of the boogie.  The Otter did a spectacular fly-by of the landing area, and our group opened a little high to enjoy the sunset and the views on what turned out to be our last canopy ride. The Last Decade

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Yeah, yeah, I know everyone else is doing it, but I’m home, sick, and bored on New Year’s Day and it’s a new decade, so let’s look back at the last. (more…)

Breathe In, Breathe Out

Friday, November 6th, 2009

By next Thursday I will have made three round trips to Southern California in just over a week.  Our trip to Elsinore has been planned for a while (Sean’s going for the entire week for the wingsuit bigway event, I’m popping down just for the weekend).  The work trips to Burbank (two days this week, four next week) came up afterward.  I thought briefly about combining the trips, but since the flight is so short and I don’t have a car in Burbank, the idea of not dragging all of my skydiving gear along on the business trips is more appealing. Out of Balance

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

I realize I haven’t blogged in a while, and I think today I diagnosed something of the malaise I’ve been feeling - I feel like right now my life is a little out of balance. Some of it is good, some bad, some just neutral, but things aren’t humming along like they had been and I’ve been feeling it for the last month or so.  At any rate, lots to update, so fair warning this’ll be a long post. Lazy Sundays

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

I’m writing this post from my couch, having just woken up from a nap, watching Sean nap on the other side of the couch and Franklin nap on his usual perch above the center cushion (one of the many advantages of having a huge sectional!)  Yes, the entire household is in the throes of a lazy Sunday at home and it feels gooooood! Franklin Finds His Voice?

018

It’s been a week without Daisy now, and I’m finally to the point where I don’t look for her when I come into my home office. Her favorite spot used to be on my office chair or in the window near the desk.

The Week in Review

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Since I got back and posted about Daisy, I’ve been trying to keep up some semblance of normalcy in my life.  The fact that I have a job and workout schedule has helped, but in working from home Monday and Tuesday I found myself being a bit of a recluse and dwelling on the bad stuff in my life.  I needed to be in the office today and have had more interaction than I usually do (mid-year review with my boss, and lunch with my team).  I think that the walk to work (sunshine!) and being around others have helped a lot. The Rest of the Weekend

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Was so overwhelmed by coming home to a dead kitty that I didn’t reflect much on the rest of the weekend.  It really wasn’t my weekend.  Bad weather, witnessing an incident on the DZ, and breaking my computer. Fun, huh? (more…)

Things you don’t want to come home to

daisy2

Came home from our weekend in Shelton/Seattle last night, after midnight, tired, cranky, and just ready to go to bed. It took a bit longer than usual, but Franklin came trotting out to greet me in the foyer, and I expected Daisy to be not far behind.

She wasn’t. (more…)

Quick update, aka bullets are my friend

Friday, July 10th, 2009

Since last we blogged…

  • Tunnel time last Thursday … probably one of my best sessions ever.
  • Vegging in town on the Friday holiday … much needed after the four-day boogie.
  • Skydance on Saturday, three very fun jumps
  • Downtown Davis on Saturday night to watch a PAC-load of jumpers do a demo for the crowd at the city’s July 4th celebration, then after sunset, a nice set of fireworks.
  • Sitting through the first jump course at Skydance on Sunday (as a prerequisite to my coach rating course, which will be next weekend).
  • Attended my friend Ken’s memorial service Tuesday afternoon (he’s the one who died at the boogie).  It had been a while since I’d had one to attend, and I’m reminded that they’re never easy.
  • Taking Daisy back to the vet again on Wednesday since she’s been showing signs of decline (tired, tentative, puking, clingy).  Vet agrees … she’s definitely not well.  Ran more tests that were mostly inconclusive, so we’ll see if she bounces back or not.
  • Preparing for my duties doing volunteer crew for the Avon Breast Cancer walk in San Francisco this weekend.  I’ll head into the city on BART in a couple hours, and be there till Sunday afternoon/evening.  Tonight’s at a hotel (no other practical way to do it since we need to be ready to go at 5:15 tomorrow morning and Sean’s out of town), and Saturday night will be camping as part of the event.  My team is running a quick stop that’s only open on Saturday (the route is longer that day), so Sunday we’ll be involved in breaking down camp and other duties as needed.
  • And throughout it all, working, working out, and trying to stay energized.  Since the boogie my energy level has been nowhere near normal; hoping it’s just a quick phase, and I’m hoping this weekend’s events will help me to rally.  I’ve been involved in the 3-Day walks before, which have a very similar structure, and have always enjoyed it.  I’m sure this will be no exception.  I’d love to walk, but am so hesitant to give up my weekends for long training walks.
