Even though I had four days last weekend and two this one, I still feel like my weekends are way too short. But that’s not news – I’m sure most people do.
Weather’s been a bitch lately, affecting our ability to jump on the weekends. Even though Saturday and Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend were gorgeous … they were also windy. Sadly, no jumping then. Yesterday, I went up to Davis (Sean had worked a night shift and was sleeping). The clouds finally burned off around 11 and there was about an hour of jumpable winds before the DZ shut down again. I’m not sure if they got more loads going in the afternoon, but I left by around 2:30.
Last night was the last of our four Cal Performances tickets – Ira Glass from This American Life. It was an absolutely wonderful end to the set of performances. It makes me want to listen to the show more often; unfortunately it’s on mid-day and late evening on Saturdays, neither of which are times I’m typically listening to the radio. Time to get some of the podcasts onto my MP3 player, I guess.
Today I joined Beth in volunteering at Children’s Fairyland, just down the street near Lake Merritt. It was a fun, but chilly project, helping them get ready for their “Fairy Winterland” that starts on Friday. It’s a neat old park – definitely a slice of history. Not much appeal for the over-5 set, but the wee ones seemed fascinated by it. We were stringing lights all over the park, and (fortunately) the rain mostly held off while we were working, though the alternating clouds and sun kept it pretty brisk. Still, it was good to get out and work in the community; a definite reminder of how much I enjoy volunteering and a kick in the pants to do it more often.
Back to Burbank tomorrow – it might be our last week there for a couple weeks, which will be nice.
