Birthday, Thanksgiving, Black Friday

Posted by on November 27, 2009

So I sit here on Black Friday, having said that I wasn’t going to buy anything but … I got sucked in by a new toy on Amazon.com, a Garmin Forerunner.  They had a fantastic deal on the 305, which isn’t the latest and greatest, but which gets solid reviews and is still good technology.  For something I’m not sure how much I’ll use, and which is a good piece of equipment in itself, one generation old works for me.  Plus, I had a $100 gift card that I got for helping a friend out with some market research, so it didn’t wind up costing me that much.

Other than that, no spending planned, and I certainly have no intentions to go anywhere near a mall!

Our big meal for the week was for my birthday on Wednesday.  We went to Espetus, a Brazilian steakhouse that we’d been to once before, back in February.  It was as yummy as we remembered, and since it was my birthday we had to indulge in dessert as well – complete with a candle and a song sung in Portuguese by the waiters (it was to the “Happy Birthday” tune).

Yesterday was a lovely, lazy day.  I did a run in the morning (I’m officially halfway through Couch-to-5K), then we went to see The Blind Side at the Grand Lake Theater down the street.  Enjoyed the movie and enjoyed the free popcorn (always included with Monday-Thursday shows).  Our Thanksgiving “feast” ended up being purely vegetarian – I had some sweet potatoes and a butternut squash that had been part of my local produce delivery, so I fired up the oven and roasted all the veggies.  Topped off with a simple gingerbread cake (from a Trader Joe’s mix) and it was a nice, simple meal.
