November Holidays

Friday, November 28th, 2008

I had to head down to Pasadena for a couple of days this week but was fortunately able to come home on Tuesday night and avoid the worst travel day of the year (the day before Thanksgiving).   Since my travel could have been distrupted, Sean planned my “official” birthday dinner for Wednesday night, but still took me out to Spettro on Tuesday night as well.  We hadn’t been there since my very first visit to Oakland - on what could be considered our first “real” date.  So it was nice to revisit there, especially since it’s so close to my apartment. California So Far

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

A lot of people have asked me how I like living in the Bay Area so far … and I’ve been responding enthusiastically - “So far I really like it. ” Of course, I pretty much expected that, but you know, change … it’s hard and unexpected, especially when you leave somewhere that you really liked and had lived for (most of) the last 11 years, and deciding to do this (and executing it) certainly wasn’t without stress. Stuck in Lodi, Again

Saturday, November 22nd, 2008

After 3 1/2 years, I jumped at Lodi today.  My lack of visits there wasn’t really planned, I just always seemed to end up at Byron or Davis every time I was down here.  And since I’ve moved, I’ve been having fun jumping at Davis.

But my friend Fozz was doing his 500th jump today and invited Sean and I to come up and join him.  I got in three fun smaller jumps (6 and 7) before the “sunset” load for the 500th.  I use the term sunset loosely, as I really think I did my first night jump.  The good news about that is that I’m much less terrified to do a real night jump.   I landed safely in the landing area (which at least was lighted, like a night jump would be), and it wasn’t as bad as I would have expected.  Unless I get a good opportunity before that, I’ll probably do night jumps at the American Boogie next year.

At any rate, it was a fun jump and a fun day.

I’m Back (Sort Of)

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Well, things have been a mess in my blogging/web hosting world for a bit.  I got frustrated and annoyed with Yahoo (my former web host) and deleted my account there before everything was set up with my new host.  And it’s taken a little while to get things working here, but finally I’m here.

Still having challenges importing my old posts but at least I’m back with new content.
